MESA PC/104 PARALLEL AND MISC I/O CARDS

4I20 Power driver card

The 4I20 is a stackable PC/104 card with 24 open drain 350 mA outputs for solenoids, valves, relays, motors, incandescent lamps and other medium power DC loads. The 4I20 outputs are galvanically isolated from logic ground to avoid ground loops, as the total ground return current be as much as 8.4 amps. The isolation also allows the 4I20 to drive ground referred loads. The 4I20 has readback capability on all outputs to verify output switching, and allow unused outputs to be used as input bits. The output drivers on the 4I20 (TI TIPC6A259) have a built-in 800 mA current limit and are protected against short circuits and capacitive loads with a unique chopping current limit system. The outputs have built in 50V clamp diodes to allow driving inductive loads without external flyback diodes. The 4I20 output connector is a 50 pin header with I/O module compatible pinout (interleaved grounds), allowing the 4I20 to drive unbuffered OPTO-22 style I/O module racks. All outputs have optional (plug in) pullup resistors that can be powered from the isolated 5V power on the 4I20 or external power. The 4I20 input and output are organized as a 24 bit multiplexer and a 24 bit addressable latch. This allows simple addressing of single I/O bits. All 4I20 access is through a single 8 bit I/O port.

 4I22 timer/counter + parallel I/O card

The 4I22 is a stackable PC/104 card with nine, 16 bit counters and 24 digital I/O bits. A 10 MHz and a 25 MHz models are available. An on card 10 or 25 MHz trimmable crystal oscillator is provided as a time base. The 82C54 counters on the 4I22 may be used for event counting, frequency counting, period measurement, frequency generation, pulse width modulators, digital one shots, interrupt timers and many other timing and counting uses. Example programs and source code are provided to illustrate most of these 4I22 applications. Eight of the nine counters on the 4I22 have external clock, gate, and output connections. Counter clock source of these counters can be the external input or the on card time base The ninth counter is used as a optional 10 or 25 MHz time base prescaler for the other eight counters. Gate and output polarity can be jumper selected as active high or low. 24 general purpose I/O bits are provided by a 82C55 PIA. Pullup resistors on the parallel I/O simplify connection to contact closure, Opto-detector, and open collector inputs. Timer and digital I/O connectors are 50 pin headers with I/O module rack compatible pin-outs. This connector pin-out has all input and output signals interleaved with grounds to reduce crosstalk. The 4I22 is an 8 bit card, but uses the stack through 16 bit PC/104 card format to allow access to all of the AT bus interrupts. Two of the counters on the 4I22 can generate interrupts. The IRQ line selection is software programmable (no interrupt jumpers!)

4I24  72/96 bit parallel I/O cards

The MESA 4I24 series of cards are 96 or 72 bit parallel I/O interfaces implemented on the PC/104 bus. The 4I24 uses 4 (4I24, 4I24I) or 3 (4I24M) socketed 82C55 PIO chips to give for a total of 96 I/O bits (4I24, 4I24I) or 72 I/O bits (4I24M). 3.3K Pullup resistors are provided on all ports to simplify interfacing to contact closure, opto-isolators, etc. The 4I24 series includes three models with different I/O connectors. The standard 4I24 uses two 50 pin headers for I/O connections. The 50 pin connectors each have 48 I/O bits, ground, and power. The 4I24I uses four 26 pin headers with ISO standard pinout (24 I/O bits per 26 pin connector, pin 2 = GND, pin 26= 5V). The 4I24M has I/O module rack compatible pinouts with three 50 pin connectors each having 24 I/O bits with interleaved grounds. 5V power on the I/O connectors is fused on the 4I24. All 4I24 models use the 16 bit stack through type PC/104 bus architecture. Four layer circuit card construction is used to minimize radiated EMI and provide optimum ground and power integrity. All CMOS design keeps power consumption to a minimum.

4I70 PC/104-PCI Remote bridge

The 4I70 is a PCI to PCI Express or PCI express to PCI bridge on a PC/104-PCI card. Two 4I70 cards and a single lane Infiniband cable make complete remote PCI bridge system for the PC/104-PLUS bus. The 4I70 allows remote expansion of PC/104-PCI systems and solving problems with PC/104-PCI card stack mechanical constraints. The 4I70 can also allow data acquisition and wireless peripheral cards to be placed in ideal locations, which may be at some distance from the host CPU. The 4I70 also allows testing of PC/104-PCI cards without powering down the host. Normally 4I70 cards are used in pairs, one jumpered for forward bridge mode (PCI-Express to PCI) and one jumpered for reverse bridge mode (PCI to PCI Express). The two 4I70 cards connect via a single lane Infiniband cable and bridge a PC-104/PCI stack with the CPU to a remote stack that can support up to 4 bus master PC/104-PCI peripheral cards. The remote 4I70 can be up to 5 meters from the local 4I70. The 4I70 has a built in 3.3V power supply and can provide up to 2.5 Amps of 3.3V power to the remote peripheral stack so that only a single 5V power supply is required.

pcie cable extender
The PCIEEX is a one lane PCI Express cable extender. It can be used for cable length extention and through panel applications. The  PCIEEXS swaps the XMIT and RECV pair so must be used in situations with 2 cables and 1 extender. 4P20 PC/104-PLUS  Power Over Ethernet card

4P20 picture

The MESA 4P20 is a 11W PoE power supply for PC/104 and PC/104-PLUS systems. The 4P20 allows a remote PC/104 system to get power and high speed communication from a single CAT5 cable up to 100 Meters long. The 4P20 supplies 5V at up to 2A, +12V at up to 200 mA and -12 at up to 100 mA via the bus connectors to the PC/104 stack. The PoE connection is done as a feed-through tap so the Ethernet connection can be routed to a local Ethernet endpoint. Auxiliary power inputs are provided to allow external 18 to 60 VDC sources to power the 4P20 if PoE is not available. PC/104 power is electrically isolated from PoE or auxiliary source power.

ISIO Low cost isolated I/O driven by printer port

The MESA ISIO is a low cost isolated I/O card that is driven from a standard printer port. The ISIO has 4 relay or 4 transistor outputs and 8  opto-isolated inputs. Relay outputs are rated at 2A, 24VDC or 1A, 120VAC.  Transistor outputs are rated at 1A, 48VDC. Inputs are 10 to 48VDC.  All isolated I/O uses screw terminals.  Outputs are disabled at powerup until a specific 12  bit code is sent to the ISIO. This prevents inadvertant output activation during power-up. Up to 4 ISIO modules can share a single printer port. ISIO outputs can be latched so that accessing other ISIO modules on a shared port does not effect the output state .  The ISIO uses a PC/104 compatible form factor but does not use the PC/104 bus. Since it uses the parallel port, the ISIO can be located as far as 10 feet from the controlling CPU.
